about

This jig goes out to the REK crew!
I have the best memories of spending time with our family friends at their cabin on the interior of B.C. when I was a kid. This tune conjures up the brightness of a morning up at the cabin; the sun playing with pine trees while deep lake-water nestles obligingly into the burly arms of surrounding mountains.
One recent visit, I noticed the name ‘C.W Crawford’ written in permanent marker on the side of a bunk bed. I then learned that C.W was the original builder of the cabin! I like to imagine C.W. on fine mountain mornings, keen with a sense of delightful anticipation towards a day of building that lies ahead. That would have been in a time before mine, yet in a place I would come to know quite well in my heart. It fascinates me that some work we do in our lives will affect the hearts and experiences of people we won’t ever meet, and that this has the power to connect and inspire us. Though it is our inclusive family friends who let this special cabin and company be part of our lives, I feel a sense of grateful acknowledgement to C.W. The family and friends I spent summer here with are my first ‘village’- relationships abounding in all directions and ways. The natural place is beautiful, and the company makes it gorgeous. So, to the REK crew; there is so much love in my heart for each of you. Let’s keep each keep growing and flowing!

Hooligans! was inspired by a particularly raucous fiddle jam at the Orchard (Orchid?!) Bar in Toronto. The A-minor reels were rippin’, and the fiddlers were really letting loose. I loved it. I felt inspired by the sheer goofiness and hooliganry I witnessed, and it inspired this tune. To you, ya hooligan fiddlers!
